Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United during the summer transfer window.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, the Premier League side will only allow him to leave if the offer exceeds £100m. The 26-year-old has been outstanding for Newcastle and there is no doubt he would be a great addition to Tottenham.
We need more quality in the middle of the park. Tonali could be an upgrade over Joao Parinha. The Portugal international enjoyed a fantastic loan spell at Tottenham last season, but the club are yet to sign him permanently. It appears they are looking to bring in a younger replacement with better quality.
Tonali is excellent with the ball at his feet and will help control the tempo of the match. He will protect the defensive unit and win the ball back for his teammates.
However, paying more than £100m for a defensive midfielder seems unlikely. Tottenham need to improve multiple areas of their squad and Newcastle will need to be reasonably accommodating to their demands to make the move a success.
Tottenham have agreed a £52m deal with Jan Paul van Hecke to strengthen their defence, and signing the defensive midfielder could take them to a new level.
Meanwhile, it is clear that Tonali could leave the club this summer. He reportedly wants to return to Italy, but is unlikely to turn down a move to Tottenham if a concrete offer is on the table.
It remains to be seen how the situation will develop.
Tottenham finished 17th in the league last season and will be aiming for a strong comeback. Signing a quality player would be a step in the right direction.
