  • Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal compete for defender
        • Chelsea ‘beg’ England star to join, responds with one word

Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal are all in the race for Real Madrid’s player and he is already heading for an exit under manager Jose Mourinho.

The Premier League trio each have their own reasons for being in the race. Man United are already looking to make a new declaration to sign Atalanta’s Ederson, while Arsenal are aiming for their first crown of the summer.

As for Chelsea, there may indeed be some good news. Before Xabi Alonso even stepped into the technical area, the Blues lost a key player in Marc Cucurella, with the left-back making a surprise move to Real Madrid.

For the Spaniard to lose such an important player so early in his tenure should not be a sign of things to come after missing out on last season’s Champions League. If BlueCo’s project is to have any chance, it must avoid a talent exodus in the coming months.

The priority missing in west London is finding a replacement for Cucurella. And that’s where Alonso could become important, with Real Madrid’s star heading for Spain’s exit.

With Cucurella moving to Real Madrid, the Premier League could be getting a star back.

According to SportsBoom, Chelsea, Man United and Arsenal are all interested in signing Alvaro Carreras, while Cucurella’s departure in Spain is seen as inevitable.

The left-back himself could be forced to leave if his playing time becomes too limited, but what makes his case useless in that regard is that Mourinho has already expressed support for selling the defender this summer.

Carreras therefore has work to do and is said to be willing to make a quick decision to join one of the interested parties once Mourinho admits he has no place in the Spanish capital.

It’s definitely an interesting race between the top three clubs. In terms of need, Chelsea will be the club to press for a left-back and reunite with Alonso after he departs as a starting option.

But that’s not to say Man United and Arsenal couldn’t add more depth.

The Red Devils have been looking for a long-term replacement for Luke Shaw and Carreras could be the ideal option to return to the club if Newcastle United remain adamant about selling Lewis Hall.

The same can be said for Arsenal, who have little hesitation in adding another quality defender to their ranks.
