  • Liverpool and Barcelona because Tottenham star Micky van de Ven
  • Roberto de Zerbi regrets parting with Van Hecke despite joining

Liverpool are actively knocking on the door to sign Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven, according to a prominent report from respected De Telegraaf journalist Mike Verweij.

The Reds are monitoring the situation closely as they plan to revamp some of their defensive unit under newly appointed manager Andoni Iraola.

Liverpool and Barcelona because Tottenham star Micky van de Ven

Verweij has given an update on the big move, revealing Liverpool and Barcelona as two of Europe’s biggest teams to pounce on Van de Ven.

Both elite clubs are looking to lure the lightning central defender away from Tottenham for a potentially reduced fee.

Van de Ven’s incredible recovery speed and excellent ball-playing ability make him one of the most sought-after left-footed centre-backs in European football, making him perfect for both Barcelona’s high line and Iraola’s vertical system at Anfield.

For Liverpool, he could be the ideal long-term replacement for fellow Dutchman Virgil van Dijk.

Roberto de Zerbi regrets parting with Van Hecke despite joining

Despite strong interest in the player, Tottenham manager Roberto de Zerbi will be reluctant to part ways with Micky van de Ven.

De Zerbi, who took over the reins at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium towards the end of last season, sees the high-flying Dutchman as an absolutely essential fundamental pillar of his tactical project.

The Lilywhites have pulled off a major coup by signing fellow Dutch defender Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton for £52m (€60m).

However, de Zerbi does not consider Van Hecke to be Van de Ven’s successor. Instead, the Italian tactician seems to be dreaming of combining the two Dutch centre-backs to form a formidable and solid backbone in his new defence.

Former scout Mickey Brown also claimed that De Zerbi was reluctant to lose him. he said:

“We all know what he brings to the team. He has blistering speed. That means he can recover and take that last challenge. That’s very important.”

“That’s why there’s a lot of interest in him. There’s also talk about Liverpool and other teams and he might be tempted to move.

“From Tottenham’s point of view, the arrival of De Zerbi will give them hope that they can convince him to stay.

“The new manager wants to build around him and wants him to be part of his team and the projects he has going on.

“For example, if he can keep that pace down at the right moments and not spoil the pitch, he will be able to work with him to solve some of the problems in the game.

“He will want to get that chance, so that means blocking any possible departure for now and trying to convince him that staying is still an option.

“It might be difficult and we’ll see how it goes, but from a Spurs point of view they would be very reluctant to lose him.”

With the Spurs’ hands tied, it would take an astronomical amount of money to force a sale no matter what bid comes in.
