Manchester United could spend big to get ahead of Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign a replacement for the impressive Matheus Fernandes.

It’s no secret that the Red Devils are looking to add midfielders this summer. Ederson is just the beginning of a rebuild on that front, with several names in their consideration ahead of what could be an expensive window for INEOS.

He is enjoying a great World Cup…

Fernandes is currently the most likely option. Recent reports suggest that the West Ham United star is set to join Man United, but everything depends on whether the Old Trafford outfit can reach an agreement with the London club.

United must decide whether they believe Fernandes is worth the hefty £85m West Ham are demanding. He will be one of the most expensive contracts ever, even though he is currently a championship player.

If that’s a price they don’t want to pay, it opens the door for other options to arrive this summer, including the PSG target who is set to leave Real Madrid in the coming months.

If it’s not Fernandes, there could be a truly blockbuster option on the horizon.

According to Sport Witness, Man United have begun approaching the club to sign Eduardo Camavinga.

They will need to stay ahead of PSG, who are currently the most advanced suitor and are preparing to make an offer.

Real Madrid are ready to sell the Frenchman and want to mount a competition for his signature.

The good news for those involved is that the Spanish giants value the midfielder at €60m (about £52m) and will not ask the club to trigger a staggering €1bn (about £865m) release clause.

For a cheaper price than Fernandes, Man Utd could surpass PSG and give Camavinga a Champions League winner. It’s not the first time they’ve brought in Madrid’s star player and on paper it makes sense.

The Frenchman struggled to match Fernandes’ resilience last season, but was better than the £85m man from elsewhere and is an undeniable bargain. Manchester United should put all their efforts into the 23-year-old this summer.
