After all, the threat of relegation for not just one season but two consecutive seasons is enough to shake the life of any club. Tottenham Hotspur just avoided elimination on the final day and for the first time in two seasons they look like a team meant to win.

The Lilywhites wasted no time in adding players, adding Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and £52m Jean-Paul van Hecke, almost building a completely new backline.

But it’s not over yet.

Offers on offer: Tottenham submit bid of £65m upfront to sign ‘ready-to-read’ player

Spurs are determined to back Roberto De Zerbi.

They also set their sights on Sandro Tonali, making two offers worth £75m, but Newcastle United turned them down and demanded a whopping £100m.

The big question now is whether the north Londoners will decide to meet the asking price and break the transfer record. There is no denying that a player of Tonali’s quality could take Roberto De Zerbi’s side to another level.

Next is the case of Spurs’ front line. It’s definitely been a dud since Harry Kane’s departure, and Son Heung-min’s departure hasn’t helped in any way.

With defensive targets secured and midfielders in place, ENIC now have their sights set on an exciting winger who can solve their attacking problems.

Tottenham face Liverpool in pursuit of World Cup star

One thing the Lilywhites cannot be accused of is their lack of ambition this summer.

Spurs are already battling Arsenal for Tonali, while also embroiled in a tussle with Manchester United over Matheus Fernandes, and will now face Liverpool.

According to Portugal’s Record, Andreas Schjelderup has requested a move to England this summer amid growing interest from Tottenham and Liverpool.

The winger is set to refuse a contract extension in order to pursue a move to the Premier League, leaving Benfica with no choice but to greenlight an offer worth 40 million euros (approximately 3.4 billion yen).

It remains to be seen whether Spurs and Liverpool can match that asking price, but it’s clear why they are interested in the 22-year-old.

Schjerdelup would be a great addition in terms of output, which de Zerbi desperately needs up front. The same can be said for Liverpool, who would be forced to find a replacement for Yann Diomande if RB Leipzig were to consider a move for him this summer.

Schjerderup should end Tell’s Tottenham career

Matthijs Tell may still be a young player, but it’s time for Tottenham to get ruthless. He has shown little sign that his ceiling is high enough to become a regular star in the Champions League, and that is what everyone associated with the north London club should be aiming for.

Schjerderup’s arrival will and should end Tell’s Tottenham career. The Benfica man has already outclassed the Frenchman and seems destined to get even better after his big move.

At just 22 years old, he will also provide the replacement for his son that Spurs have been looking for. The player will have a big decision to make if Liverpool and the Lilywhites come calling, but Spurs’ ambitions suggest this is a winnable race.
