The third Grand Slam of the season arrives as the world’s best players once again don their finest all-white outfits as they head to London’s All England Lawn and Tennis Club for Wimbledon.

Wimbledon announced the men’s and women’s draw on Friday, with top seeds Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka looking to shake off a disappointing early exit at Roland Garros last month and claim another Grand Slam title. While Sabalenka’s struggles and Mila Andreeva’s rise as a Grand Slam champion were expected to be the headline news on the women’s side, the biggest story at Wimbledon is the stunning return of seven-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams.

Williams will play doubles with her sister Venus. He was given a wild card entry into the singles draw. There she will face Australia’s Maya Joynt, seeking her first Wimbledon singles win since 2019, when she reached the final.

Seven seeded American women will participate in the draw: No. 4 Jessica Pegula, No. 6 Amanda Anisimova, No. 7 Coco Gauff, No. 16 Iva Jovic, No. 23 Emma Navarro, No. 26 Madison Keyes, and No. 28 Ang Lee. They will each be looking to break a decade-long drought for American women at Wimbledon, as Williams is the last American winner on Wimbledon’s grass. However, it was a disappointing draw for American tennis fans who wanted as many as possible to advance to Week 2, and if they can win the first two matches, it will be Anisimova vs. Keyes and Gauff vs. Lee in the third round.

Carlos Alcaraz will again be absent from the men’s draw as he is recovering from a wrist injury, giving him a chance after the game. Sinner proved mortal in shocking early exit From Roland Garros, where we struggled in the heat. That means the six seeded American men – No. 4 Ben Shelton, No. 6 Taylor Fritz, No. 16 Lerner Tien, No. 17 Francis Tiafoe, No. 21 Tommy Paul and No. 28 Brandon Nakashima – will be aiming to qualify for Week 2 as the U.S. men’s Grand Slam drought continues since 2003.

Of that group, Fritz was exposed to the toughest initial test as he faced a full-fledged road game environment in his first match against Jack Draper, who was ranked fourth in the world last year but dropped out of the top 100 due to a back injury he was just beginning to make a comeback to.
