This week, Chiefs Wire’s Ed Easton Jr. sat down with professional golf icon Annika Sorenstam.
In an interview with Easton Jr., Sorenstam spoke about her participation in this year’s American Century Championship, which will be held July 10-12 at Edgewood Tahoe and will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock. She commented on the improved golf skills of WNBA superstar and lifelong Kansas City Chiefs fan Kaitlyn Clark.

“I’m excited to be a part of this event (American Century Championship). It’s a special invitation,” said Serenstam. “I feel lucky to be a part of this event.”
The WNBA star has frequently indicated he is a Chiefs fan over the years. She appears on the New Heights Podcast with Travis Kelce and watches a game at Arrowhead Stadium with Indiana Fever teammate Sophie Cunningham.
Clark and Sorenstam bonded over appearances at the LPGA’s ANNIKA Pro-Am. She believes the basketball All-Star could rival Stephen Curry as a powerhouse in golf.
“I’d love to see Caitlin (Clark) compete in a tournament like this. She competed in my event ‘The Annika’ at Pelican in the LPGA’s Tampa area. She loves golf and she’s a good golfer. I mean, she’s been playing golf for a long time and she’s very athletic as we all know,” Sorenstam said. “I think she’s going to be a great addition to the tournament. And from a women’s perspective, we’d love to get her when her (WNBA) season doesn’t conflict with our activities, you know, he’s a great athlete and he has the skills to win this tournament.”

The annual tournament awards $750,000 in prize money, much of which famous players donate to local and national charities. Over the years, more than $8 million has been donated to nonprofit causes. Network television exposure on NBC/Peacock and a $150,000 first prize make this celebrity tournament one of golf’s most prestigious tournaments.
