  • Newcastle United interest faces roadblock
  • Magpies should wait until Dortmund drop their rating

Newcastle United are interested in Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmeka, but the Magpies are not currently prepared to meet the huge fee the Bundesliga club is demanding.

According to ChronicleLive, Newcastle are considering signing the Germany international as part of their midfield plans, but Dortmund’s assessment has made a deal difficult.

Sky Sports also reported that Eddie Howe is a big fan of the 25-year-old, with Newcastle previously considering signing him in 2023 before ultimately signing Sandro Tonali from AC Milan.

Nmeka continues to attract Newcastle’s attention, but it looks like this is not going to be an easy move.

Newcastle United interest faces roadblock

Nmecha’s name has meaning for Newcastle. He is physically strong, technically stable and able to play in a variety of midfield roles.

He is also well-versed in English football, having come through Manchester City’s academy, making him an even more attractive player for Premier League clubs.

However, Dortmund are in a strong position. Goal reports that the German club wants around 100 million euros this summer, citing the kicker.

Nmecha’s contract runs until 2030, but the termination clause is not effective during the current term.

This is a big problem for Newcastle, who are looking to be more prudent with their spending.

While the Magpies may admire Nmeka, paying him close to €100m would be a huge financial commitment, especially when other areas of the team also need attention.

Magpies should wait until Dortmund drop their rating

Newcastle are right to leave unless Dortmund become more realistic.

Nmeka is a very good player and his performance at the World Cup with Germany will only increase his profile, but 100 million euros is too high.

Howe clearly likes him and the club’s long-term interest shows this is no coincidence.

Still, Newcastle can’t afford to pay a huge fee just because their Premier League rivals are also taking notice.

If Dortmund lower their prices, Newcastle should be back on the table. However, at the current valuation, exiting is a wise move.
