  • Gusto hopes to reunite with former coach Maresca
  • Chelsea should be careful in their decision

Manchester City’s summer rebuild could include a bold move for Chelsea right-back Maro Gusto, with the French defender reportedly open to joining the Premier League giants.

According to Futto Mercato, Gusto has agreed to a potential move to Man City this summer.

The 23-year-old is currently representing France at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but his future at the club has been the subject of much discussion following Enzo Maresca’s arrival at the Etihad.

The player may be tempted by the move, but Chelsea will need to convince them to sell the defender, who is under contract until 2030.

Gusto hopes to reunite with former coach Maresca

The biggest factor in this story is Maresca.

The Italian worked with Gusto at Chelsea and is thought to have strong links with the defender.

Maresca, who has been appointed City manager, is currently shaping the team for a new era following the departure of manager Josep Guardiola.

Gust would make sense for City. He is fast, aggressive and comfortable in possession, which he has already proven in the Premier League.

City are looking to revamp parts of their squad, so a modern right-back who can play high up, press well and support the attack would be a useful addition.

However, Chelsea’s position is strong. Gusto has developed into an important player since joining from Lyon and selling him to a direct rival in the Premier League would be a big move.

The Blues are unlikely to accept anything unless the offer is very attractive.

Chelsea should be careful in their decision

Chelsea need to be very careful here. Gusto doesn’t always grab the headlines, but reliable full-backs with his speed and technical qualities are not easy to find.

This would be a smart signing for Man City. Maresca knows the players well, the players know the league well, and the tactical fit is clear.

However, City’s reinforcement could actually be a huge blow to Chelsea.

Chelsea could be in trouble if Gusto insists on the move. Still, he has a long contract and doesn’t need to be sold immediately, so he should only consider a deal if City make a huge offer.

Anything else will feel like a mistake.
