Liverpool and Manchester United are set to suffer major transfer setbacks, but Monaco midfielder Magnes Akrioche is reported to have Paris Saint-Germain as his preferred destination this summer.
According to TEAMtalk, Akulioche has told both Premier League clubs that joining PSG is his priority.
The Ligue 1 champions are currently in negotiations with Monaco and are said to be in a favorable position to win the title.
The direction of the transfer is clear. ESPN also reported that PSG considers Acriusz a priority target.
PSG move ahead of Liverpool and Man United
Acrioch has enjoyed a fantastic season with Monaco, becoming one of the most exciting attacking midfielders in French football.
His creativity, close control, intelligence between the lines and ability to play across attacking roles made him attractive to several top clubs.
For Liverpool, he was seen as part of a wider attacking rebuild, particularly as the club considers young, creative options.
For Manchester United, he made sense as a flexible midfielder who could add quality to the final third and help revamp their attacking structure.
However, PSG always looked like a dangerous rival. They can offer Champions League football, domestic domination, the French football project and the chance to work under Luis Enrique.
This is a very attractive package for the French international, who is already playing in Ligue 1.
It will be a big blow for the Iraora team compared to the Carrick team.
This feels like a bigger setback for Liverpool than it did for Man United.
United have other priorities in midfield this summer, but Liverpool appear to have a more urgent need for attacking creativity and long-term changes in their forward areas.
Akurios would have suited Liverpool’s style well. He is strong in pressing, technically sharp and comfortable receiving the ball in tight spaces. Finding those qualities is not easy.
Still, English clubs often face an uphill battle when a player makes a clear preference for PSG.
Liverpool and United shouldn’t waste too much time trying to change his mind.
Unless PSG’s move suddenly stalls, both Premier League clubs might be better off moving quickly to alternative targets.
