Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing James Trafford from Manchester City.
They are looking to add more depth to their goalkeeping department, having signed Martin Dubravka as a back-up option last week. Trafford has also been linked with clubs such as Aston Villa and Newcastle United.
Spurs star James Trafford
According to a report in the Independent, they are considering a move for the 23-year-old Manchester City goalkeeper, who has struggled to get minutes at the English club.
Trafford needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham will be able to make a deal. According to reports, Tottenham are seeking a deal. He is expected to compete with Antonin Kinski for the starting spot next season.
Trafford could be a star
Trafford enjoyed an excellent spell at Burnley before moving to Manchester City and is undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers in the country. He has the quality to develop into a star for club and country given regular opportunities. Trafford was hailed as ‘world class’ during his time at Burnley.
The opportunity to join Tottenham would be hard to turn down, especially if they can guarantee him regular minutes. It remains to be seen whether he will be able to secure an agreement with Manchester City. It’s not difficult to convince a goalkeeper to join the club.
If they can sign him for a reasonable amount, the 23-year-old could be a great bargain down the road. He could sort out the goalkeeping position at Tottenham and establish himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Guglielmo Vicario is expected to leave the club this summer, and Tottenham appear to want three goalkeepers at their disposal for next season.
