Enzo Fernandes’ monster move from Chelsea to Real Madrid appears to be going nowhere, despite much hype over the summer so far, and despite some quotes from his agent Javier Pastore this morning that attempted to imply the contrary.
The composition is simple. Chelsea want to sell and Real Madrid want to buy. Enzo is very enthusiastic about this move. That would make things easier, but transfer fees are a big issue.
The Blues paid more than £100m for the midfielder and are hoping to get at least that much in return. Real Madrid, despite their wealth, balk at that amount.
Real Madrid grow pessimistic about signing Enzo
Mario Cortegana of today’s Athletic newspaper reported: “Fernandes is a favorite of new manager (José) Mourinho, but club officials have downplayed the prospect of signing him. Chelsea are asking around £120 million for him.”
That will never work out for Madrid, who know the Argentine isn’t worth that much.
Pastore and Enzo can push as much as they want, but they will struggle to push Chelsea’s asking price further down. They should try not to overplay their hand and accept that they may have to bide their time.
