It’s already been a busy summer for Rangers. They ushered in a new era with the hiring of Derek McInnes, who was joined by Laurence Shankland, Ben Godfrey, Dan Neil, Ross McCrory and goalkeeper Ivor Pandur. The 49ers fully support their new manager.
But as players continue to flow through the door, it is Lyon who are trying to sneak their star players out of the exits at Ibrox. The French giants have their sights firmly set on Youssef Cermiti.

|---|---|
reliability | This is not the first time there has been interest in Celmiti, with Rangers consistently remaining steadfast despite their high asking price. However, this time Lyon reportedly intends to exceed his value even further, making it a match to watch. |
finances | Celmiti has a market value of just €15m (about £13m) and Lyon are reportedly prepared to offer him less than €20m (about £17m), including bonuses, above his market value. If so, the Rangers have a lot to think about. |
insight | It took him some time to find success at Ibrox, but the forward became a big-time player last season, scoring seven goals against Celtic and Hearts. |
impact | With Chelmiti’s departure, Rangers could turn their attention to the market for another striker, with a significant transfer fee of around £17m possible, potentially breaking a transfer record in the process. |
Charmity will be a player to keep an eye on at Rangers in the coming months, as he has signed Shankland and his big offer is certainly attractive.
Lyon begin contract negotiations with Celmiti
According to Futto Mercato, Lyon are now poised to overwhelm Rangers with an offer for Celmiti, with an offer in excess of £13m, with a bid in the region of €20m.
Negotiations are ongoing, but question marks are beginning to hang over the forward’s immediate future at Ibrox.
Of course, Celmitie could become one of Rangers’ most expensive sales in their history if Lyon make an offer worth £17m.

Why Rangers should keep Celmitie
Although he wasn’t always consistent last season, Celmiti’s ability to score important goals in important moments is certainly worth noting. This is a trait that cannot be taught, and one that McInnes should value highly.
If Shankland leads the line, there will be enough goals to compensate for the forwards’ difficulty against low blocks.
It is also worth noting that Celmiti is only 22 years old. He’s likely to get even better, which could increase his value even more. If the 49ers want to make money, they should hold out for another year and watch transfer records be broken.
