  • Tottenham prioritize signing Man City winger Savignho after Sandro Tonali
  • Why Sabinho and Tottenham are a match made in heaven
        • Roberto De Zerbi sends clear message to Tottenham about Cristian Romero, demands made

Tottenham have already made a big splash this summer with the signing of Sandro Tonali for a club-record £100m, but the spending hasn’t stopped.

As Roberto De Zerbi continues to rebuild his squad, all eyes are on Man City winger Sabinho, another player admired by Spurs’ recruitment team.

Savinho has been attracting attention from Europe’s biggest clubs in recent years.

Barcelona manager Deco was exploring the possibility of signing the Brazilian during his break with Girona in 2023, a move confirmed by then sporting director Quique Carcel before City moved to sign him in a City Football Group setup.

Since then, the winger has continued to improve despite finding it difficult to get consistent playing time.

Manager Josep Guardiola described him as a “top class” wide player thanks to his speed, dribbling ability and confidence in one-on-one situations, with the former City boss claiming he could become a truly elite player if he added goals and assists.

This latest information comes from talkSPORT’s Ben Jacobs, who is considered a highly relevant transfer journalist, particularly with coverage of the Premier League and Saudi Pro League. He has worked for CBS Sports, GiveMeSport and talkSPORT and is highly regarded for explaining the business side of transfers in detail.

finances

Savignho’s move marks another major investment from Tottenham. According to reports, City could ask for up to £50m, reflecting both his age and long-term potential, despite his limited starting role. The fee is significant, but Spurs may think it will be worth it for the 22-year-old winger, who has Premier League experience and significant resale value, if he delivers on his promise.

insight

Savinho came through the Atlético Mineiro youth system before joining City Football Group via Troyes. Extensive loan spells with PSV and Girona accelerated his development, and his performances in Spain, along with Brazil, earned him international recognition. He then joined City, where his speed, dribbling and creativity continued to develop at the highest level.

impact

Sabinho would give Tottenham something different to their current range of options. Compared to Mohamed Kudus’ outstanding ball-running and power, the Brazilian has similar creativity and additional one-on-one talent. He could also ease the burden on Wilson Odbert, Matthijs Tell and Dejan Kulusevski, adding another unpredictable attacker who can create chances from either flank.

Tottenham have once again emerged as favorites to sign him, as they did last summer when they were embroiled in a lengthy battle.

In an interview with talkSPORT, transfer journalist Ben Jacobs revealed that Sabinho is a priority target for Spurs as they look to strengthen their attack following the arrival of Tonali.

“Their main focus is Sabinho,” Jacobs said.

“Let’s see if Manchester City’s board approves the deal.”

These comments suggest the biggest hurdle may not be convincing players, but convincing City to part with one of their talented young attackers.

Sabinho has shown glimpses of his huge potential, but cracking into the starting XI has never been easy given the competition for places.

That’s where Tottenham can offer something different.

Regular Premier League football, a central role in De Zerbi’s attacking plans and the opportunity to be one of the team’s headline players would make north London an attractive destination if City decide a sale or loan is the right move.

Why Sabinho and Tottenham are a match made in heaven

Sabinho’s play seems to suit De Zerbi’s style well.

He moves when receiving the ball in space, attacks full-backs with confidence and has the acceleration to stretch the defensive line.

The Brazilian is equally comfortable creating chances for his team-mates and getting into dangerous shooting positions himself, making him a real threat from wide range, even if the final product needs some improvement.

If Tottenham can persuade City to negotiate, it could be an exciting new business.

Savigno’s ceiling remains very high. At just 22 years old, he already has qualities that aren’t easy to coach: explosive speed, flair and the courage to take on defenders over and over again.

For Spurs, adding that type of unpredictable winger to their new team would give De Zerbi another dynamic attacking weapon.

If City open the door, Sabinho could become one of the most interesting wide forwards in the Premier League over the next few years.

However, much could depend on Enzo Maresca, who may have plans for the South American player as he prepares to evaluate City’s new team.
