Manchester United are reportedly interested in Johan Manzambi, a talented young midfielder from Freiburg who made headlines at this summer’s World Cup.

The 20-year-old looks like an elite candidate and top clubs are sure to make a move to sign him after his performances on the biggest stage.

The latest news from the Daily Mail is that Man United are interested in Manzambi, but Newcastle also have a long-standing interest in the Swiss international and are reportedly at the front of the queue for his signature.

Manzambi, who scored three goals and provided two assists at the 2026 World Cup, was one of the breakout stars of the competition and should do well enough for the Red Devils to stay ahead of their rivals in this transfer race.

Johan Manzambi transfer could be a big story

We’ve often seen that a good World Cup raises a player’s profile, and that seems to be happening with Manzambi as well, and it will be very difficult for Freiburg to keep him at this point.

The Mail reports that Newcastle remain hopeful that Manzambi will arrive at St James’ Park, but if he continues to play, he will no doubt only become more linked with other big clubs.

Man Utd could do this by strengthening their midfield this summer, and focusing on the young talent Newcastle are chasing might not be the worst strategy as their recent additions have been very effective.

The Magpies have often been successful in finding players before they truly reach their prime, with players such as Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimarães, Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon, Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento developing and increasing their value within the club.

Mandzambi could be a player with similar potential if NUFC were to sign him, but United, who will be playing in the Champions League next season, would undoubtedly be a more attractive option.
