Real Madrid and France star Kylian Mbappé has slammed Paraguayan politician Celeste Amarilla for making racist comments against him after their World Cup match.
The 27-year-old scored the winning goal in France’s match against Paraguay, helping them reach the World Cup quarter-finals, but Amarilla posted a shocking message about him on her social media.
Amarilla criticized Mbappé’s actions during the match, but went too far, describing him as “a colonized Cameroonian desperately trying to pass himself off as French” and “a savage who never learned to write”.

In a statement quoted by the Guardian, Mbappé fired back at Amarilla: “Mrs. Celeste Amarilla, you are a despicable woman and unworthy of your position. You do not represent Paraguay, a country that sweats passion and honor throughout the tournament.”
“Through your recklessness and brazen racism, the entire world has already forgotten the journey and historic efforts of our players at this World Cup, giving way to an incompetent woman who paints the worst image of her country. I will never allow people like her the freedom to spread hate and racism around the world.”
Kylian Mbappé leads France’s World Cup charge
After all, while Mbappé is probably the best footballer on the planet at the moment and is likely to lift the famous World Cup trophy this summer, Amarilla is an abomination who doesn’t deserve the headlines she deserves.
There was clearly some bad blood between Mbappé and some of the Paraguayan players, but nothing excuses such comments.
It is very worrying how often these languages become mainstream, even though society in general has made great progress.
Mbappe was right and let’s hope he can now focus on what he does best: being an absolute ballplayer on the football pitch and bringing joy to millions of people.
