The PGA Tour heads across the pond this week for the 2026 Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, where the world’s best players will hone their links golf skills ahead of next week’s British Open Championship. Last year’s Scottish Open provided a preview of the British Open leaderboard, with six of the top 12 teams on the Scottish leaderboard finishing in the top 10 at the following week’s major.
So this week on the scene, after making the four-hour trek south to Royal Birkdale, he will find out that success at the Renaissance Club bodes well for his chances. Two of the best players in the world, Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, will be the headliners, but there will also be a number of other notable players in attendance, including Jon Rahm, who is competing as part of the DP World Tour roster. This will be a rare opportunity for Rahm to join some of the best players in the world in a non-major championship, allowing him to scale up against Scheffler, McIlroy and many of the PGA Tour’s top golfers.
Scheffler won his first true links golf victory at the British Open last year and will be looking to end his winless streak since his first appearance in 2026 when he returns to the UK. Chris Gotterup is the defending Scottish Open champion, fresh off his fifth career PGA Tour victory at the John Deere Classic, and is back to form in late summer. Also competing are Xander Schauffele, Ludwig Oberg, Tommy Fleetwood, Matt Fitzpatrick, Windham Clark, Viktor Hovland, Patrick Reed and local hero Robert McIntyre.
The Scottish Open is one of the best events on the summer schedule thanks to its precedence over the British Open, allowing fans from mainland America to watch a star-studded field battle it out in North Berwick while sipping their morning coffee.
