Enzo Fernandes is in a difficult situation.
The midfielder wants to leave Chelsea and made that clear in his comments earlier this year and his subsequent refusal to commit to the club.
But the fact that the Blues paid more than £100m for him and are determined not to lose a penny in any sale means there are very few clubs interested. Now that Real Madrid have made it clear that they are not interested, there is no one left.
As journalist Ben Jacobs pointed out, Enzo’s strong World Cup isn’t actually attracting suitors, it’s only reinforcing Chelsea’s belief that Enzo is a valuable player they’re looking for.
Enzo could play to avoid future transfers
“Enzo Fernandes doesn’t have a lot of options given his rated price,” Jacobs said on the London Is Blue podcast this morning.
“Due to the ongoing World Cup, he is once again attracting the attention of many clubs and putting himself forward in the shop window, but this will make Chelsea even more eager to keep him unless their assessment is met and he is not already on a good contract.”
In other news…
One of the most interesting players on the market this summer is Christos Tzoris, with Arsenal at the forefront of signing him.
Liverpool are keen to sign Bradley Barcola this summer, but the price PSG are asking for him is pretty crazy and there are big questions as to whether the Reds will pay it.
