Manchester United have reportedly given up on signing Ederson and are instead focusing on Joao Gomez, but they could also face competition from Liverpool.

As we covered tonight, the Ederson to Man United transfer saga has been going on like crazy for hours, with some sources claiming the deal has been broken and others denying it.

According to Italian outlet Sport Mediaset, the Red Devils are said to be focusing on signing Roma midfielder Manu Kone rather than Ederson.

Now, Globo reports United have turned their attention to another Brazilian midfielder in Wolves ace Gomez.

However, this may not be an entirely straightforward deal as Liverpool also claim to have made some contact regarding signing the 25-year-old.

Joao Gomez is already thought to be on the brink of a transfer this summer.

Gomez has impressed during his time at Wolves, so it’s understandable that there will be interest in him this summer.

Ben Jacobs reports that Gomez is a target for Atletico Madrid, but his latest information suggests that the deal unexpectedly fell through in the final stages…

If it is true that Gomez is no longer at Atletico, there would clearly be an opportunity for the likes of United and Liverpool to pounce.

MUFC would do well to bring in a player with that profile if Ederson is unavailable, but LFC would also do well to make some changes in the center of the park after their surprisingly poor run of form last season, which saw them slip to fifth place in the Premier League.
