Looks like Carlos Alcaraz is back. But that hasn’t been confirmed yet.

The seven-time Grand Slam champion, who missed the French Open and Wimbledon with a wrist injury, is scheduled to play at the Cincinnati Open. The Cincinnati Open listed him on Wednesday as a singles participant for the upcoming tournament. However, Alcaraz has not yet confirmed his return.

Spanish newspaper La Verda reported on Tuesday that Alcaraz’s wrist is healthy and fully healed, and that he is working with the team to gradually increase his training load. Alcaraz has not played competitive tennis since getting injured at the Barcelona Open in April.

According to the same report, Alcaraz and his team are targeting a return to competition in Cincinnati, but are “unwilling to set a firm date until they are certain that the wrist responds to high-intensity training without discomfort.”

“The next two weeks are crucial and medical clearance will depend on his day-to-day progress without taking any unnecessary risks,” La Verda reported.

Alcaraz is dealing with tendonitis. According to the Cleveland Clinic, “tendonitis is an inflammation of the connective tissue that protects tendons,” and can be painful and make it difficult to move the joint. Untreated, it can lead to complications. Wrist injuries are a particular problem for tennis players.

Alcaraz’s most recent tennis-related Instagram post was on July 9, when she was seen performing various tennis drills during training.

He posted an image of himself enjoying some free time on Wednesday, but made no mention of being on the Cincinnati Open roster.

The Cincinnati Open is scheduled to begin on August 13th and is one of the premier hard court events ahead of the US Open. The draw for the main draw of the US Open tournament is scheduled to begin on August 30th.

Alcaraz is the reigning two-time U.S. Open champion and will be a favorite along with world No. 1 Jannik Sinner if he is fully recovered and ready to play.

With his top rival out, Sinner won Wimbledon last week and will be aiming for his second US Open title in September. Alcaraz’s return will make Sinner’s bid even more convincing.
