Aston Villa are reportedly in talks over a summer move for Chelsea striker Nicholas Jackson, potentially giving Unai Emery the chance to reunite with the player he helped develop at Villarreal.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Jackson’s name came up in recent talks between Villa and Chelsea.

These negotiations appear to have revolved around Chelsea agreeing to sign Morgan Rodgers from Villa for £117m, but Jackson will be treated as a separate deal rather than part of a direct exchange.

Jackson’s relationship with Emery makes him an obvious target

Emery gave Jackson his Villarreal first-team debut in 2021 and played a key role in improving his movement, decision-making and understanding of how to attack spaces.

Villa’s manager previously told Sky Sports that Jackson’s attitude was “fantastic” and praised his desire to learn.

That relationship could make Villa Park an attractive destination. Jackson’s pace, pressing and ability to run in behind defenders suit Emery’s counter-attacking system, while his versatility means he can also play alongside Ollie Watkins or act as the main striker as Villa rotate their attack.

Jackson spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Bayern Munich, making 34 appearances and scoring 11 goals.

Bayern have decided not to activate their €65 million buyout option, with sporting director Max Eberl confirming the striker will return to Chelsea.

Chelsea take full control of Jackson’s future

Chelsea still have considerable control over the situation due to his long-term contract, which runs until 2033.

Therefore, another loan with a potential buyout option or obligation becomes more viable than a discounted outright transfer.

Villa’s interest does not guarantee Jackson’s departure. According to the latest reports from The Sun, he wants to stay and impress new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso and the club are prepared to evaluate him during pre-season.

Jackson would be a smart tactical addition for Villa, but only through a carefully structured loan.

His inconsistency remains a concern, but Emery already knows how to play to his strengths and that his familiarity could turn a risky move into a productive reunion.
