Glasgow Rangers have done a lot of business for Derek McInnes since the summer transfer window officially opened last month.

The defense has been strengthened with the additions of Ivor Pandua, Ben Godfrey and Ross McCrory, while Cammy Devlin and Dan Neil have also joined to strengthen the midfield.

However, Lawrence Shankland, who was signed before McInnes’ arrival, is the only natural attacker added to the squad and the goal for the remainder of the term should be to raise the ceiling up front.

Václav Černý, who currently plays for Besiktas, is one of the attacking players who has emerged as a potential signing for the Scottish Premiership giants this summer.

Latest on Rangers’ pursuit of Václav Cerny

The Light Blues welcomed the Czech international on loan from Wolfsburg for the 2024/25 season, and were managed by Philippe Clement and Barry Ferguson, who attracted attention with his performance in Glasgow.

The Gers are now hoping to bring the forward back to Ibrox for a second spell. Last week it was claimed the club were preparing a fresh offer to sign him from Besiktas, but the Turkish giants have already seen their offer of £5m rejected.

Rangers are hoping to agree a deal worth less than £8.5 million with the former Wolfsburg forward to replace Andreas Skov-Olsen, who has expired on loan, to join their attack team.

MacInnes currently lacks a naturally left-footed attacking player apart from Bojan Miovski, but Černý’s return would give him a different profile as a wide-area attacker and keep opponents guessing.

Who could Rangers sign alongside Cerny?

The club are looking to sign the Czech star back to Ibrox, while also eyeing a player who would be a dream partner for the right-sided winger.

Journalist Alan Nixon has reported via his Patreon that Glasgow Rangers are one of the clubs interested in signing Ryan Alebios from Blackburn Rovers this summer.

The reporter claims that both Premier League teams Brentford and Ger sent scouts to the friendly against Barnsley and were hoping to watch Blackburn play, but that the player was not selected for the Championship squad.

Despite not being able to watch him play, Nixon revealed that both Rangers and Brentford are expected to make a move for the right-back before the end of the period.

Alebios, who was previously touted for a transfer fee of £5 million, would be a fantastic signing to pair with Cerny down the wing. He will play as a right-winger and as a right-back behind the left-footed star.

The Nigeria international is an attack-minded full-back who will provide a constant threat on the right-wing overlap, as evidenced by his 12 ‘big chances’ in last season’s Championship.

Of course, Rangers had already signed McCrorie, one of their right-backs, from the English Championship, but Alebios was a much more exciting attacking threat than a Scottish defender at that level.

The £5m-rated star created a further five ‘big chances’ and racked up an xA of over 3.41 for his team-mates in the division, with both making 39 appearances for their respective clubs.

Alebios previously played in the Premiership on loan from St Mirren in the 2024-25 season, creating two “big chances” in 13 league games and recording an astonishing 1.2 successful dribbles per game.

Described as “powerful” by analyst Kai Watson, the Nigerian star would be the perfect partner for Cerny on the right flank, as his ability to consistently create chances on the overlap always attracts the attention of defenders.

That consideration will give Černý more room to work, allowing him to cut in from the right with his favored left foot and pass the ball across, either by shooting, by crossing, or by faking a pass to Alebios.

However, there is still plenty of work to do as the club has yet to agree a deal with Besiktas or Blackburn, which should be the next step this summer.
