Things have improved significantly for Tottenham Hotspur in recent months.
When Roberto De Zerbi took over as manager of a club that was in the relegation zone in the spring, it felt like a final throw of the dice. It went incredibly well.
Not only have they maintained their form, the club now has new momentum and the owners are capitalizing on that by spending big this summer. Matheus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali and Jan Paul van Hecke have all signed for a total of €270 million, while free agent Marcos Senesi has also arrived.
New players were brought in and players who had intended to leave, such as Pedro Polo, were persuaded to sign new contracts and stay.
Spurs’ asking price is too high for a Serie A side
But not everyone is adamant about the next step in the de Zerbi revolution. One player who still seems likely to leave is Cristian Romero. The club’s captain remains strongly linked with a move to Serie A, and Team Talk has the latest report on that one link today.
Barcelona’s Fraser Fletcher says Inter Milan are the frontrunners, although Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are also pursuing the Argentine star.
But for us, there is one big problem. Tottenham want £50m for the defender, but there is no way Inter Milan will pay that amount for the 28-year-old. It is possible that some compromise can be found, but for now the gap is quite large.
