  • Jarrod Bowen is too good for championship football

Jarrod Bowen’s long-term future at West Ham will depend on how next season unfolds, according to former recruitment expert Mick Brown.

The Hammers captain has signed an amended contract to commit to the East London club following relegation, but there are unwritten rules or specific agreements that could give him a route back to top-flight football if they miss out on immediate promotion.

Mick Brown talks about Jarrod Bowen’s future

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former scout Mick Brown revealed that Bowen’s decision to remain at the London Stadium was subject to strict conditions relating to the team’s performance.

“Bowen has agreed to remain at West Ham with plans to play in the Premier League next season,” Brown explained.

“But come the end of the season, if they’re behind or are about to miss out, the speculation around him will come up again.

Interest from these clubs is not going away and they will continue to monitor West Ham’s situation. ”

Brown stressed that regardless of a club’s status, securing immediate promotion to the Premier League is not an easy task.

“It is not a foregone conclusion that they will bounce back soon…Many clubs have been down, tried to get back on their feet and failed.

“We anticipate that Bowen has an agreement in place with the club that will allow him to consider his options should they miss out on their promotion goal.”

Bowen has established himself as one of West Ham’s most important players in recent seasons and there would be no shortage of fans in the Premier League should he become available.

Even before he signed his new contract, he was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this summer.

The England international famously scored the winning goal in the 2023 UEFA Europa Conference League final and has consistently been one of the Hammers’ standout performers.

Bowen, 28, is still at the peak of his career and a longer stay in the Championship could impact on his ambitions to play regularly at the highest level and maintain his place in England’s set-up.

But for now, his focus appears to be on helping West Ham make an immediate return to the Premier League.

Speculation about Bowen’s future is likely to intensify if the Hammers fail to win promotion, and Brown believes the winger will then be in a position to assess his options.
