Inter are interested in signing Cristian Romero

The Italian giants have submitted an initial bid structured as a hefty loan fee with a compulsory takeover clause worth a total of 40 million euros.

The Serie A side have adopted a familiar transfer strategy with this structure, reflecting their success in signing defender Manuel Akanji.

Spurs had initially insisted on a figure closer to €50 million, but discussions have progressed rapidly following prolonged communication between the two boards.

Inter Tottenham begin negotiations to sign Romero. The player has given the Nerazzurri the green light. New contacts are expected. The first offer is a large loan with a total purchase obligation of 40 million (as in Akanji’s case).

Romero gave the go-ahead for the transfer.

Importantly for Inter Milan, Romero has been given the ‘full green light’ to complete his move to San Siro.

The 28-year-old Argentina international played for Atalanta before joining Tottenham in 2021 and is keen to embark on a new challenge in Serie A.

Inter manager confirms interest in Romero

Inter Milan’s sporting director Piero Ausilio has publicly verified the exclusive report and openly confirmed that the club is actively pursuing the Spurs centre-back.

“We are certainly interested, that’s true. We’ve talked to our agent and Tottenham. We’ll see what happens,” Ausilio admitted (quoted by Fabrizio Romano)

Inter are not the only team chasing Romero. According to reports, Barcelona are also interested in the World Cup winner, with Arsenal also making him a surprise target.

The player has decided to leave the club. It is not up to the club to make the best offer to Tottenham.

For now, Inter seem to be leading the race. Fresh contacts are expected to take place between Tottenham and the Italian giants in the coming days to iron out final financial terms and finalize a major move.
