Mourinho: Man United Justified in Retaining Faith in Amorim

Jose Mourinho expressed his support for former club Manchester United, applauding their decision to retain manager Reuben Amorim despite a challenging season.

Under Amorim’s leadership, United finished 15th in the Premier League, failing to qualify for the Champions League while also losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur 1-0.

“Considering my impact on Man United, which includes the loss in the Europa League final, it’s significant, especially since they haven’t been in European competition for several years,” said Mourinho, the last manager to secure a European title for United in 2017, in an interview with Sky Sports.

“At the same time, it’s clear they are backing Reuben, giving him the necessary time and resources to make progress.”

Amorim, who is set to transition from Sports CP to manage United in November, recently apologized to fans after the club’s poorest ever finish in the Premier League.

Despite this setback, Amorim remarked that not participating in European competitions could actually benefit the team, with signs of improvement for the next season. Mourinho noted, “I’ve seen quotes from him stating he’s pleased with his last six months here.” Mourinho, currently managing Fenerbahçe since last summer, drew parallels with his own experience.

“I faced similar challenges when I joined Porto,” he reflected. “In January 2002, we struggled for six months just to qualify for the UEFA Cup, but then what happened next was significant.”

Mourinho went on to lead FC Porto to a treble (Portuguese League, Portuguese Cup, UEFA Cup) in his first full season and secured the Champions League title in the 2003-04 season.

Fan Take: This news resonates with soccer fans as it underscores the importance of stability and patience in management, especially after a disappointing campaign. Amorim’s potential revitalization of Manchester United could be pivotal for the club’s future ambitions and the competitive landscape of the Premier League.
