On Friday at the Madrid circuit, Lindblad impressed many by putting his Racing Bulls car in fourth place during qualifying simulations halfway through the hour-long session.

“There’s quite a bit of damage, but nothing that can’t be repaired,” he added. “I apologize to the engineers and especially the mechanics who now have some extra work tonight.” Reflecting on his pace before the accident, Lindblad said, “Our speed was strong; we earned P4 fairly. Every lap we ran in FP2 was quick, which is the key takeaway. We know qualifying is crucial here, so we’re in a good spot despite missing some long-run data. No one really managed a solid long run, so I feel confident heading into tomorrow. I’m focused on regrouping tonight, forgetting the crash, and taking the positives from today.”
