Kevin Durant and San Antonio Spurs had “mutual benefits” at the 2024-25 trade deadline

After finishing 36-46 in 2024-25, the Suns parted ways with head coach Mike Budenholzer. This is the third consecutive season in which Phoenix has fired head coach.

This is an important offseason for the franchise’s future. The team hasn’t been achieved since Kevin Durant arrived in Phoenix. This offseason, there were several reports that the Suns had launched trade talks with other teams on Durant. ESPN’s Shams Charania says there was mutual interest in the trade deadline between Durant and Spurs. Is San Antonio still interested in Durant this offseason?

Through trade to acquire Kevin Durant and Bradley Beale, the Suns tapped most of their draft capital. Despite increasing the talent of the veteran, Phoenix fell from 2024 to 25. After winning 49 games in 2023-24, they won this past season 36. NBA Insiders report that the Suns could consider replacing either Devin Booker or Kevin Durant. Booker is Phoenix’s highest scorer ever. All signs refer to him remaining placed with the sun.

The same cannot be said about two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant. Phoenix was shopping for Durant at the 2024-25 trade deadline. They wanted to trade Durant for Golden State, but he expressed his reluctance to return to Warrior. ESPN’s Shama Charania reported that Spurs and Durant gave “mutual benefits” to the 2024-25 trade deadline. This could potentially make the 2013-14 MVP a target for San Antonio this offseason.

Kevin Durant published the book for $54 million between 2025 and 2026. That’s the final season of the four-year contract. There are reports that he can sign $120 million for up to two years. Shams Charania said he is actively looking for wing players who can help the Spurs take their team to the next level. Durant may be a Spurs player. San Antonio owns #2 and #14 picks in the 2025 NBA Draft, as well as other draft capitals. That’s enough to make a deal for Kevin Durant.
