Toronto Tempo guard Marina Mabrey will be sidelined for the rest of the WNBA season due to a right adductor injury, the team announced Wednesday. The 30-year-old player does not require surgery and is expected to fully recover in time for the 2027 season.
This year, Mabrey has been delivering career-best performances, averaging 20.8 points, 3.7 assists, and 3.3 rebounds over 32 games with the expansion Tempo. On June 25, she scored 53 points in a single game against the Los Angeles Sparks, matching the WNBA record shared by A’ja Wilson and Liz Cambage.
With just four games remaining in the regular season, the Tempo are out of playoff contention, currently sitting 13th in the league with an 11-29 record.
Mabrey entered the league as a second-round pick by the Sparks in 2019 after playing at Notre Dame. She was traded to the Dallas Wings before the 2020 season, spent three years there, then moved to the Chicago Sky for a season, followed by a trade to the Connecticut Sun. After being chosen by the Tempo in the WNBA expansion draft, she signed a two-year, $2.4 million maximum contract this past April.
