Marco Rose expressed that his team showcased the essence of “Bournemouth football” during their Europa League victory over Real Sociedad on Thursday.
In their inaugural European match, Bournemouth secured a 2-1 win against La Real, with early goals from Justin Kluivert and Rayan within the first 20 minutes.
Bournemouth becomes the 38th English club to debut in a major European competition, joining six of the nine teams from this century that won their first matches (D2 L1).
The Cherries faced a challenging opening game, as La Real suffered their first home defeat in major European tournaments since losing to Anderlecht 2-1 in October 2024, ending a run of five unbeaten matches (W4 D1).
Though Rose acknowledged that the performance wasn’t flawless, especially as La Real gained momentum in the second half, he praised the intensity displayed by his team.
“That’s Bournemouth football,” Rose stated to TNT Sports. “We aim to be proactive and defend with purpose while creating opportunities. We even had a chance to make it 3-0. The match lasts for 90 minutes, and the first half was exceptional.”
