  • It appears that Anthony Gordon will not be moving to Arsenal.
  • Arsenal’s lack of goals cost them in 2024/25

Arsenal expert Charles Watts discussed the recent forwarding link with Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon in today’s limited column.

The North London giants could do this summer’s attack, with Gordon showing his quality at St. James Park.

Gordon, who scored nine goals and six assists in all Newcastle competitions during the season, could be an upgrade for inconsistent performers like Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Torosador.

Still, Watts isn’t that convinced Arsenal’s link from Gordon. Athletic Bilbao’s Winger Nico Williams claims he is likely a target for the priorities of that position.

It appears that Anthony Gordon will not be moving to Arsenal.

“Anthony Gordon is another proposed target for Arsenal,” Watts said.

“He’s an interesting player. The guy I have to admit was having his game in Heights that I didn’t expect him to reach when he first moved to Newcastle.

“I was one of those people who questioned the price Newcastle paid to sign Gordon from Everton, and now it’s hard to question.

“If Newcastle wasn’t eligible for the Champions League, he could have been a possibility. But they secured a top-5 finish, so the prospects for Gordon and their star players look very slim now.

“We couldn’t really see him heading towards Arsenal anyway. Nico Williams was the club’s priority target when he was on the left side of the attack. If they were to make a reinforcement move in the area, we hope that the athletic Bilbao winger will be the guy they ousted.”

Arsenal’s lack of goals cost them in 2024/25

Arsenal failed to enter double digits on one player in the 2024/25 season due to league goals.

It’s very surprising and in many ways it’s even more impressive that Mikel Arteta led him to second place in the semi-finals of the Premier League and Champions League.

But now, Arsenal will need to bolster this summer to pose more threats in the final third with new strikers and new wingers.

Bukayosaka can’t rely on doing it all on his own, and signatures like Gordon and Williams are ideal to replace Martinelli and complement those who play for centre forward.
