David Stockton, a former point guard for the Gonzaga Bulldogs, recently signed a training camp contract with the Phoenix Suns but was waived shortly after on Friday, September 18, according to RotoWire. This development will lead Stockton, the son of Hall of Famer John Stockton, to rejoin the Valley Suns, the G League affiliate of the Phoenix Suns, for the upcoming fall season. Notably, the general manager of the Valley Suns is Brendan Sabean, who previously worked as a student manager at Gonzaga.
Stockton, now 35 years old, last appeared in an NBA game with the Utah Jazz during Game 3 of the Western Conference Semifinals against the Houston Rockets on May 4, 2018.
With nine years of experience in the NBA G League, Stockton has posted career averages of 16.3 points, 6.8 assists, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.5 steals over 29.5 minutes per game across 244 games (185 as a starter). His most recent G League season was with the Valley Suns during 2024-25. Throughout his career, he has played for several teams including the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (affiliated with the Indiana Pacers), Memphis Hustle (Memphis Grizzlies), South Bay Lakers (Los Angeles Lakers, now Coachella Valley Lakers), and the Reno Bighorns (Sacramento Kings, now Stockton Kings), dating back to 2014.
In addition to his U.S. professional career, Stockton has also played internationally in Croatia, Australia, Germany, and Puerto Rico.
