Diego Simeone has urged his new Atletico Madrid players to keep their composure during the intense atmosphere of the upcoming Madrid derby.
Atletico will host Madrid at the Metropolitano on Sunday, with both teams separated by just two points and two positions before the international break.
Following wins against Real Sociedad and Osasuna, Simeone’s squad is looking to bounce back after previous losses to Athletic Club and Liverpool in the Champions League.

He emphasized the importance of confidence and noted that while rival teams have a more potent transition game, Atletico must minimize ball loss, which is when Madrid excels.

Madrid has secured victories in their last two encounters with Atletico in all competitions but hasn’t achieved three consecutive wins against them since 2013, when they managed ten straight derby victories.
This match will also feature a reunion between Simeone and Mourinho, who has gathered 15 points in his first six LaLiga matches since returning to the Spanish capital.
Simeone has faced loss in all three of his LaLiga encounters with Mourinho, a record only surpassed by Xavi whom he lost to five times out of five in the league.
Notably, Mourinho has won all six of his matches against Atletico, making history as the only manager with six consecutive derby wins.
Simeone expressed, “Reflecting on past years isn’t helpful. I have immense respect for Mourinho and hope we can compete as we have in the past.”
On the subject of Julian Alvarez, who has been sidelined for two matches due to injury, Simeone confirmed, “He will travel with us. We will decide whether he starts or joins in later.”
