Niko Kovac expressed his excitement for Maximilian Beier, who emerged as the matchwinner for Borussia Dortmund against Stuttgart following his exclusion from the Germany national team.
Beier netted the sole goal in Dortmund’s victory over Stuttgart on Saturday, allowing BVB to maintain their perfect start to the Bundesliga season and secure the top position heading into the international break.
This marked Beier’s third contribution in the Bundesliga this season (one goal and two assists), trailing only Serhou Guirassy (four contributions) for Dortmund.
Among German players, only Deniz Undav (17) has achieved more Bundesliga contributions than Beier’s tally of 12 (six goals and six assists, tied with Philipp Tietz) this year.
Despite being one of 44 players called up, Beier was not included in Jurgen Klopp’s first Germany squad.
Kovac was pleased to see how the forward reacted to that disappointment.
“Life tells the best stories,” the Dortmund manager remarked.
“Maxi Beier might not be in the national team, but he was the one who found the net. I’m really happy for him, and it proves we have a strong squad and an outstanding player in Maxi, who has rewarded himself with that goal.”

Dortmund’s four consecutive victories to start the Bundesliga season is a first in 11 years, marking only the fourth time in the club’s history that they’ve achieved this, following similar feats in 2001-02, 2013-14, and 2015-16.
They have also secured six consecutive wins across all competitions, matching a record established under Kovac in April and May of 2025.
“The match was intense on both sides, lacking the drama often associated with past Dortmund-Stuttgart encounters,” Kovac noted.
