Tranquility Lake Farms’ Beauty Reigns has consistently placed in four stakes races and is now aiming for her first stakes victory in Saturday’s Grade 2 Gallant Bloom, a $250,000 race covering 6 1/2 furlongs for fillies and mares at Belmont Park.
Under the guidance of trainer Bill Mott, the 4-year-old Into Mischief filly comes off a strong closing third in the Grade 1 Ballerina at Saratoga Race Course on August 29. In that race, the gray filly rallied from next-to-last to finish 6 3/4 lengths behind the winner, Ways and Means, and just 1 1/4 lengths behind Kilwin, who took second.
Beauty Reigns also placed third to Kilwin in last August’s Grade 1 Test Stakes over the same distance and course. “She’s been placed twice in Grade 1 races but has yet to secure a stakes win,” Mott noted. With a career record of 4 wins, 3 seconds, and 3 thirds in 14 starts, Beauty Reigns has finished in the top three 10 times. She has shown effective off-the-pace speed in three allowance dirt sprint wins. Before the Ballerina, she outpaced rivals Senza Parole and Munnings Express in a seven-furlong optional claimer at Saratoga in July. “She’s a relentless competitor. My goal is to help her capture a stakes win, whether it’s Grade 2, 3, or another level,” Mott added.
Beauty Reigns is sired by Into Mischief out of the unraced mare Ilsa, a daughter of Tapit. Her second dam is the 2009 Broodmare of the Year Sweet Life, dam of multiple Grade 1 winners Sweet Catomine and Life Is Sweet.
Joining the field is Team Spoor’s Munnings Express, who lately stepped up to graded competition after a successful stakes win in the seven-furlong Johnstone for New York-breds at Saratoga on August 5. Trained by Linda Rice, the 4-year-old bay filly has never finished worse than third in 12 starts, holding a 6-3-3 record with earnings exceeding $423,000. She previously finished third in an optional claimer behind Beauty Reigns and Senza Parole at Saratoga and has recorded four wins in 2026, including two optional claimers this spring at Aqueduct.
Bred by Fergus Galvin and others, Munnings Express was purchased for $325,000 at the 2023 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Preferred New York-bred Yearling Sale. She is out of Freudie Anne, a multiple stakes-winning Freud mare and half-sister to stakes winner Frostie Anne.
Another contender, Don Alberto Stable’s Kentucky-bred Senza Parole, trained by Chad Brown, recently triumphed in a six-furlong optional claimer on a muddy, sealed track at Saratoga on September 2. The 4-year-old Gun Runner chestnut fended off multiple stakes winner With the Angels by 2 1/4 lengths. Senza Parole has amassed a record of 4 wins, 3 seconds, and 1 third in 10 starts, with $340,650 in earnings. This marks her third stakes-level try after finishing third in the Grade 2 Bed o’ Roses in June and running fifth in this race last year behind R Disaster.
Grade 1 winner R Disaster from Averill Racing enters as the defending champion, though she finished sixth in the recent Ballerina. The 5-year-old bay filly, trained by Saffie Joseph Jr., previously dominated the Grade 1 Derby City Distaff at Churchill Downs in May. With career earnings exceeding $1.3 million and 9 wins in 17 starts, including last year’s Gallant Bloom by 3 1/2 lengths, R Disaster boasts the best Beyer Speed Figure among the group with a 103 earned in the Derby City Distaff.
Trainer Joseph will also saddle Paradise City, a 4-year-old bay by McKinzie, who recently placed fifth in the Ballerina after winning her first career stakes race, the Saylorville, at Prairie Meadows in July. Paradise City has a career mark of 4 wins, 3 seconds, and 1 third in 15 starts, totaling nearly $400,000 in earnings.
Rounding out the field is Queen Jubilee from Pick View and partners. The 4-year-old Authentic filly makes her stakes debut after winning an allowance race by 8 1/2 lengths at Colonial Downs in August. Trained by Whit Beckman, Queen Jubilee has mainly raced at one mile or longer, but both her wins came at six furlongs. Beckman acknowledged it’s a step up in competition but believes her recent performance suggests she can compete effectively. “She’s a big filly, and while we originally thought two turns would suit her best, her top races have come around one turn,” Beckman said. “We’re taking a shot for some black type before she sells in November.”
Beckman admitted it’s hard to predict how aggressive a challenge this will be for Queen Jubilee, given the quality of the field compared to her recent allowance win.
