Haaland achieves unique milestone in Premier League goals.

Erling Haaland netted the eighth goal in a thrilling match as Manchester City triumphed over Sunderland, achieving a notable personal milestone in the process.

The final score was 5-3 in favor of City, despite Sunderland’s Brian Brobbey earning a hat trick.

City initially took the lead with goals from Enzo Fernández, Rayan Cherki, and two from Antoine Semenyo before Haaland found the net in the 81st minute.

His goal—originally ruled offside but later confirmed by VAR—marks the achievement of scoring against all 25 teams he has faced in the Premier League while with City. 

Before this match, Sunderland was the only club he had yet to score against; he hadn’t found the net in two prior encounters last season.

Haaland’s strike against Sunderland was his 117th goal in the Premier League and places him at the top of the Golden Boot standings with five goals this season. Alexander Isak, who scored the winning goal for Liverpool against Bournemouth on the same day, trails with four goals.

On a side note, Brobbey became the first player in Premier League history to score a hat trick while being on the losing side since Roque Santa Cruz did so for Blackburn against Wigan in December 2007. He also became the fourth player ever to score a hat trick against a team that started the day at the top of the table, following in the footsteps of Robbie Fowler, Dirk Kuyt, and Romelu Lukaku.

Brobbey is also the first player to achieve a hat trick against Manchester City since Jamie Vardy did it six years ago, and it’s the first such feat for a Sunderland player since Jermain Defoe a decade ago.

Meanwhile, Enzo Maresca, City’s manager, is now among six coaches who have won their first five Premier League matches at the helm of a team, joining the ranks of notable figures like Carlo Ancelotti, Pep Guardiola, and others.
