A boxing club dedicated to supporting young people through sport has launched its own foundation aimed at expanding its reach across England. Brightstar Boxing, located in Shropshire, combines boxing and education to assist vulnerable youth in building brighter futures and fostering a sense of community.
The newly established Brightstar Boxing Foundation, based in Shifnal, intends to help develop “undervalued, underutilised local sports clubs” nationwide, enabling them to connect with the communities and young people who most need their support. Calvin Latham, the foundation’s leader, emphasized their goal to empower grassroots clubs that engage tens of thousands of young people.
He explained that tapping into these underused resources will maximize positive impacts on youth by building resilience, strengthening communities, and offering constructive outlets, especially at a time when local areas are facing challenges. The foundation aims to act as a bridge between major decision-makers and local clubs, amplifying their voices to influence future sports policies and encourage broader participation from those who might not have previously considered getting involved.
Looking ahead, the foundation plans to extend its work to new regions and counties within the West Mercia area over the next year, with ambitions to bring Brightstar’s model to sports clubs across the country.
