On Saturday, December 5, Los Alamitos will host the $200,000 Starlet Stakes, a Grade 2 race for 2-year-old fillies, marking its 13th running. The following weekend, on Saturday, December 12, the Grade 2 Los Alamitos Futurity, also with a $200,000 purse, will take place. Both races cover a distance of 1 1/16 miles. Last year’s Futurity was won by Litmus Test, trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert, who also claimed the Starlet with Consequent, extending his winning streak in that race to nine consecutive years.
Additionally, two ungraded mile-long stakes for juveniles will be held: the $100,000 Soviet Problem for fillies on Sunday, December 6, and the $100,000 King Glorious Stakes on Sunday, December 13. Both races are restricted to horses bred or sired in California.
