If Ohio’s third-string quarterback hadn’t led the Bobcats on a last-minute touchdown drive against South Alabama, we’d have been a perfect 5-0 last week. That’s just how things go sometimes.
I focus on smart, disciplined wagers — everything I post is cross-checked with experienced handicappers, oddsmakers and betting pals who know the business. This space won’t be about throwing out a million picks or pushing five-team parlays; I share the bets I like most and those I’m personally backing.

Cal +2.5
Clemson is in a rough spot — long travel on a short week — and they face a lively Cal offense led by sophomore Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele (JKS). He’s a dynamic arm talent who can create big plays, and I expect him to have success against Clemson’s secondary. I’ll take the points.
Under 38.5 points (Michigan vs. Iowa)
This matchup won’t be flashy. Two stout defensive fronts and conservative coaches suggest a slog. Don’t be surprised by punts from midfield or field-goal attempts on short fourth downs. Iowa also does a strong job against mobile QBs, so I’m leaning to a low-scoring affair.
Florida moneyline (-160)
As retired Vegas bookmaker Ed Salmons noted, the market often hints at who will cover. Public sentiment shifted on Ole Miss last week, but now bettors are piling on them in The Swamp. Florida’s defense has improved and coach Jon Sumrall was clearly upset about 16 penalties last game — instead of laying three points, I prefer backing Florida straight up.
Wisconsin +10
This is Penn State’s first meaningful test — Marshall, Temple and Buffalo were warm-ups. Wisconsin’s trenches are a challenge, and their new QB, Colton Joseph, looks promising. Smart money often fades Matt Campbell’s teams when they’re heavy favorites, and with a 44-point total, ten points looks attractive. A 7-0 start for Wisconsin would be nice.
Chargers +7.5 (at Bills)
You may not like this, but I’m backing the Chargers. After preseason buzz and a couple of ugly losses as favorites, bettors have cooled on L.A., which creates a buying opportunity. Jim Harbaugh can get aggressive, and I expect that urgency to help the Bolts keep it within a touchdown-plus.
Buccaneers +1.5 (vs. Vikings)
The Bucs have stumbled to 0-2 both straight-up and ATS, and they’re home underdogs after losing to Cleveland. Minnesota is popular after beating the Bears, but I’m willing to trust Baker Mayfield here — Tampa Bay has the outside weapons to counter the blitz packages Brian Flores will bring.
Fan Take: These early-season betting moves matter because they reveal how perceptions and market narratives are forming — underdogs getting respect or favorites getting laid off can shift how teams are approached by opponents and coaches. For NFL fans, that influences game planning, viewer expectations and sometimes the momentum of a season more than you’d think.
