Max Verstappen’s Red Bull F1 2026 Contract: Major Update and New Clauses Revealed

Max Verstappen is reportedly preparing to activate clauses in his Red Bull contract that will ensure he stays with the team for the 2026 Formula 1 season. The clause, which is valid until the end of 2028, is expected to be finalized if Verstappen remains within the top four of the F1 World Drivers Championship by the end of June.

According to Motorsports, Verstappen’s option to leave Red Bull is no longer applicable as he is projected to stay in the top four following the Austrian Grand Prix next month. Currently, Verstappen holds third place in the World Championship standings, 25 points ahead of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, while Red Bull’s strong position to keep him is 57 points behind Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. If Verstappen maintains at least a 50-point lead over Leclerc by the end of the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend, he will secure his top-four standing before Austria, with only the Canadian Grand Prix occurring between these races.

This development could finally settle the ongoing speculation surrounding Verstappen’s future, which has been a hot topic for over a year. Throughout 2024, Mercedes was rumored to be interested in signing him to replace Lewis Hamilton, who is moving to Ferrari, but Toto Wolff clarified at the Australian GP that Verstappen was not on Mercedes’ radar. Instead, Mercedes plans to stick with its current driver lineup of Kimi Antonelli and George Russell.

Verstappen also has a notable connection to Aston Martin through former Red Bull design chief Adrian Newey, who joined the Silverstone team in March. Newey, speaking to SkySport F1 at the Monaco Grand Prix, noted Verstappen’s constant pursuit of the fastest cars, describing him as “a scary competitor” focused on driving machinery that allows him to showcase his talent.

Fan Take: This news is huge for racing fans as it solidifies Verstappen’s place at Red Bull, ensuring fierce competition at the top of the grid for years to come. It also hints at potential shifts in team dynamics, especially with Newey’s move to Aston Martin, which could spice up the battle for the fastest car on the grid.
