The New York Jets managed to cut into their deficit against the Detroit Lions, but they lost star running back Breece Hall in the fourth quarter. Hall exited after suffering a thigh injury on a second-and-goal run; following an evaluation in the sideline medical tent, the team ruled him out for the remainder of the game.
On the short-yardage play Hall ran toward the sideline and was brought down by Lions linebacker Trevor Nowaske, landing with much of his weight on his right hip. New York was down by 14 when the injury occurred but finished the drive with a touchdown and later rallied to tie the game at 24, completing the comeback without Hall on the field.
Before leaving, Hall had 13 carries for 32 yards and caught three passes for 23 yards. He had entered Week 2 as the Jets’ leader in yards from scrimmage (131 rushing, 79 receiving) and was one of three players to record a rushing touchdown early in the season. Hall is also one of the league’s most productive pass-catching running backs, tied for third on the team in receptions over the first two games.
Braelon Allen stepped into an expanded role after Hall’s exit. Allen has experience handling a heavier workload from 2024 when Hall dealt with a knee issue, though Allen himself missed most of 2025 with a knee injury. He remains two years removed from a promising rookie year in which he started two games and totaled 334 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Fan Take: This matters because Hall is the Jets’ most dynamic offensive weapon, and any missed time could significantly alter New York’s offensive identity and game plans. It also highlights the importance of depth at running back across the league, where injuries can quickly shift opportunities and outcomes.
