Many WWE couples often mention the benefits of traveling together on the road, but fewer discuss the smaller challenges of dating within the wrestling world. WWE Women’s Champion Chelsea Green and her husband, fellow “WWE SmackDown” star Matt Cardona, shared insights about their relationship during an appearance on “Casuals with Katie Nolan.” Green revealed a surprising fact even Cardona hadn’t known: she initially struggled to remember his real name. “Everyone called him ‘Zack [Ryder],’” Green explained. “All his friends and people in his life used his wrestling name. I didn’t know his parents, so it was different, but everyone called him ‘Zack,’ and I only slowly started calling him ‘Matt’ when I was with him. Even then, people still called him ‘Zack.’”
Cardona, clearly surprised, admitted it was the first time he heard she had trouble recalling his real name. He noted that even his own dad stuck with calling him “Zack” until Cardona’s WWE release in 2020.
The couple was officially reunited on the road when Cardona returned to WWE on the January 2 episode of “SmackDown.” Cardona had competed previously in WWE NXT through the company’s partnership with TNA and also appeared in John Cena’s “Last Time is Now” tournament last November, where he lost to LA Knight.
