Bryce Huff is currently associated with the Philadelphia Eagles. According to ESPN’s report on Friday, Philadelphia is negotiating a trade to send Huff to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a future mid-round draft pick. Huff has agreed to renegotiate his contract, and the trade is expected to be completed on June 1.

Huff is about to start the second year of a three-year, $51.1 million contract. The Eagles signed him after his standout final offseason with the New York Jets, where he recorded career-best stats of 10 sacks and 29 combined tackles in 2023. Last season, Huff tallied 13 combined tackles, 2.5 sacks, and one forced fumble over 12 regular-season games, helping Philadelphia to win Super Bowl LIX. He spent the first four years of his career with the Jets from 2020 to 2023.

This year, Huff was slated to earn $17 million fully guaranteed; the Eagles have paid $9.05 million so far, with the 49ers covering the remaining $7.95 million. If the trade goes through, Huff will reunite with Robert Saleh, the former Jets head coach (2021-24) who is now part of the 49ers’ coaching staff for a second stint. The 49ers, coming off a 6-11 season and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2020, will add Huff to their defensive end group alongside Pro Bowler Nick Bosa and 2025 first-round draft pick Michael Williams.

Fan Take: This trade could be a game-changer for both teams, providing the 49ers with a proven edge rusher to bolster their defense and giving the Eagles valuable assets for future drafts. NFL fans should watch closely as this move may shift the competitive balance in the coming seasons and highlight the importance of strategic trades in team building.
