Liverpool has kicked off its summer transfer activities by announcing the signing of Jeremy Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen on a five-year deal.

Shortly after Trent Alexander-Arnold revealed he would be joining Real Madrid to participate in the Club World Cup, Liverpool swiftly sought out his replacement.

The Premier League champions activated Frimpong’s release clause of €35 million (£29.5 million). The official paperwork is expected to be finalized when the transfer window opens on Sunday.

Frimpong was pivotal in assisting Leverkusen in clinching their first Bundesliga title in the 2023-24 season, making 53 appearances in all competitions and finishing second in the 2024-25 season.

Remarkably, the Dutch international has scored 19 goals in Europe’s top five leagues since the beginning of the 2023-24 season, leading all defenders.

Frimpong joins former Dutch teammates Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch at Anfield, and he is also set to reunite with a former Leverkusen teammate in Liverpool.

Additionally, Liverpool is in discussions with Leverkusen about signing Florian Wirtz, with negotiations progressing for a deal rumored to be worth £109 million.

“It was a straightforward process; Liverpool expressed their interest, and it felt like a clear choice for me,” Frimpong said.

“To the Liverpool fans, I promise to give my all, and I’m looking forward to celebrating our victories together.”

“I’m thrilled to be here, and I appreciate the warm welcome. I won’t let you down; I’ll bring the energy!”

Fan Take: This signing is significant for soccer enthusiasts as it not only strengthens Liverpool’s squad but also highlights their aggressive approach in securing top talents. The potential addition of Wirtz could further elevate the team’s performance, making the upcoming season even more exciting for fans.
