Pep Guardiola has spoken to Manchester City supporters following the club’s conviction for significant violations of Premier League financial regulations from 2009 to 2018, affirming, “We will overcome this together.”
In February 2023, the Premier League charged Manchester City with 115 counts of violating the league’s rules over a nine-year span.
On Tuesday, the Premier League announced that City had been found guilty on all counts concerning serious financial misconduct and most charges related to their non-cooperation with the league’s investigation.
Richard Masters, the Premier League’s chief executive, stated that City had “systematically breached Premier League Rules for almost a decade,” labeling the ruling as the “most significant” in the league’s history.
The club has vowed to contest this decision and must submit an appeal by October 2. Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak expressed confidence in proving the club’s innocence last Friday.
Former City defender Micah Richards, who celebrated a Premier League title and an FA Cup during his time with the club, expressed his feelings of “absolute devastation” over the verdict.
In contrast, Guardiola took a more resolute stance, showing his unwavering support for the club’s leadership through social media on Wednesday.
I want every single @ManCity fan to know I am here; more than ever. I am, always have been, and always will, be behind my club, my owner, my chairman, Ferran, the players, staff, Enzo and you, our unique supporters.
Let me be clear: we will get through this together.

“I want every Manchester City fan around the globe to understand that I stand with you now more than ever,” Guardiola wrote, alongside a photo of himself with Al Mubarak.
“I have always been and will continue to be loyal to my club, my owner, my chairman, Ferran [Soriano, chief executive of the City Football Group], the players, staff, Enzo [Maresca], and you, our exceptional fans.
“Let me emphasize: we will navigate this together. I love you all.”
During his decade at City, Guardiola secured 20 major titles, which included six Premier League championships, three FA Cups, five EFL Cups, and the Champions League in the 2022-23 season.
Editorial Opinion: This ruling and the subsequent response from Guardiola highlight the ongoing tension between financial regulations and competitive integrity in soccer. For fans, this situation is significant as it could reshape the landscape of the Premier League, influencing not just Manchester City’s future but also the overall dynamics of power and fairness in the sport.
