Woodbine Entertainment is excited to host its sixth annual Woodbine Aftercare Day in support of the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA) this Saturday, October 3, during Canadian International Day. The Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance is dedicated to accrediting, inspecting, and awarding grants to North American organizations that focus on retraining, retiring, and rehoming Thoroughbreds once their racing days are over.
Locally, the LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society, accredited by the TAA, plays a vital role by providing retired racehorses with individualized training, evaluations, and loving adoptive homes, relying on donations and volunteer support. As part of the day’s activities, the TAA will serve as the presenting sponsor for the Grade 3 Nearctic Stakes and will present the Best Turned-Out Horse Awards—sponsored by Josham Farms Limited—for all stakes races on Saturday, including the prestigious Canadian International (G1), bet365 Dance Smartly Stakes (G2), bet365 Algonquin Stakes (G3), and the Cup & Saucer Stakes.
Additionally, jockeys and valets will have the option to donate a portion of their race earnings to the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance throughout the day. Stacie Clark-Rogers, operations consultant for TAA, expressed gratitude for Woodbine’s ongoing dedication to Thoroughbred aftercare and enthusiasm for celebrating this partnership once again.
Woodbine Entertainment will also contribute $20,000 to the TAA on Saturday, reinforcing its commitment to equine welfare both on and off the racetrack. Martha Wakely, director of Thoroughbred Racing Operations at Woodbine, emphasized the importance of supporting aftercare programs and welcomed the TAA team to the venue, highlighting the impact of their work.
