Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio is scheduled to undergo surgery for a stress fracture in his right tibia.
Asencio has been dealing with this injury since the beginning of the season and was not included in any of Madrid’s first five matchday rosters.
Even after returning, he has yet to play a single minute for the team and apparently worsened his condition during Wednesday’s training session.
Consequently, he will have surgery on Thursday, with Spanish outlets reporting that he could be sidelined for two to four months.

Last season, Asencio played 34 matches for Madrid but lost his starting position towards the end of the campaign.
Manager Jose Mourinho has been relying on Ibrahima Konate and Dean Huijsen as his main centre-back pair since taking charge.
However, the Portuguese coach may soon have Eder Militao available again, as the defender has resumed training following hamstring surgery that kept him out since April.
Madrid will face Villarreal at home on October 10 after the international break.
In the world of soccer, injuries like Asencio’s can dramatically affect a team’s performance, particularly for a powerhouse like Real Madrid. Fans should keep an eye on the depth and development of the squad, as every player’s contribution is vital in pursuit of trophies.
