Tyrrell Hatton struggled on day one of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland.
Hatton carded a round of two-over par 74 at Carnoustie on Thursday, leaving him a whopping nine shots adrift of the leaders.

The Englishman made only two birdies in his round of 74, along with four bogeys.
Tyrrell Hatton would have been expecting to contend this week at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
After all, he has won the tournament three times before, most recently in 2024.
However, he will have his work cut out to make the cut now after his sloppy opening round at Carnoustie.
Golf fans criticize Tyrrell Hatton’s behavior at the Alfred Dunhill Links
On the par-three 8th hole at Carnoustie on Thursday, Hatton found the green-side bunker with his approach shot.
After hitting his bunker shot over the green, the Englishman began smashing his club into the sand.

Many golf fans flooded social media with their criticisms of Hatton after his poor behavior in the bunker at Carnoustie on Thursday.
One golf fan demanded punishments for players after Hatton’s unacceptable behavior, saying: “What’s new there? When are the powers that be going to get a hold of these modern day golfers? The general erosion of standards and etiquette on the course is ridiculous. Been getting worse over recent years.“
While another said: “Also another player’s ball in the bunker yet to play. Club golfers don’t act like this.“
Meanwhile, one fan exclaimed: “Isn’t it about time these golfers are taken to task for behaviour like this and also swearing? It’s like they are exempt from being disciplined. I swear with the best of them but don’t want to keep hearing all sorts on TV and the commentators apologising for it every time.“
Another fan questioned Hatton’s mentality, saying: “He’ll never win a major, that’s for absolute certain.“

And the comments kept coming, with fans stating: “It’s always the bunker’s fault!!! Can you imagine this guy when no one is looking very scary stuff,“ and, “Send him back to LIV, what’s he doing there? What an embarrassment he is.“
“That is not cool, not on a golf course! They gotta start fining these guys, this is awful for the game,“ one fan fumed.
While another fan joked: “Bless him. He wants to try hitting out of the sand on ordinary golf courses.“
The thing with Tyrrell Hatton is that, nine times out of 10, he actually plays a lot better after letting off steam on the golf course.

Now, some of the behavior he displays is certainly unbecoming of a professional golfer.
However, it could be argued that he wouldn’t be the same player if he kept all of his anger inside all the time.
Perhaps he needs to find a better balance, because he can’t be doing what he did today at Carnoustie.
