Max Cook finished fifth in Race 1 at the Donington BSB event, a result he believes he can improve upon in the two races scheduled for Sunday by making progress in a specific section of the Midlands circuit. Although he was satisfied with matching his previous best finish from the two Assen races, Cook feels there’s room to close the gap if he aims to compete for a podium spot tomorrow.
Reflecting on the race, Cook told Crash.net, “The race went alright. I know our setup is strong, but maybe I just didn’t have it in me today to challenge for the podium. That’s down to me, and I know how to fix it for tomorrow.” He pinpointed the final sector of the track as an area needing improvement, admitting he’s currently pushing too hard on braking. “At the moment, I’m just not quite there yet,” he added, explaining that while he believes his braking is good, he might be overdoing it and consequently undermining his performance.
Comparing today’s race to the start of the season’s round two, Cook acknowledges he’s not as confident now as he was then, particularly following a significant crash at Thruxton. “The bike hasn’t changed, but early in the season, I was riding with more confidence. Now I’m working on regaining that,” he noted. Cook also mentioned the rising competitiveness of the Honda team, especially with Ryan Vickers’ recent improvements, which has shaken up the championship and made the Showdown stage of the year even more intense as riders fight for their seats and strive to enhance their setups.
Fan Take:
This update is crucial for racing fans as it highlights how even top competitors like Max Cook face ongoing challenges and adjustments mid-season, emphasizing the mental and technical demands of the sport. It also signals an increasingly competitive battle ahead, which will make the remaining BSB rounds thrilling to watch.
