Joe Talbot’s confidence took a hit after failing to score in three races at Assen, but two top-six finishes on Sunday at Donington helped restore his momentum. On Saturday, Talbot ended Race 1 in ninth place after having to start from Q1.
He entered the Donington round feeling the pressure, following crashes and bike troubles at round nine that had left him without any points. His confidence had dipped compared to the middle of the season when he was regularly finishing in the top six.
“Assen was a tough weekend with a couple of crashes and no results, even though we had the speed,” Talbot told Crash.net after Race 3 at Donington.
Despite coming off some significant crashes and losing confidence, Talbot said the team’s hard work over the weekend and his own efforts on track paid off with three top-10 results: ninth, sixth, and sixth. He noted their pace improved incrementally throughout the event, making the overall weekend a solid one.
During Race 2, Talbot managed to keep lap times close to the lead group for a stretch, especially after Rory Skinner and Leon Haslam crashed, which created a gap ahead of the BSB rookie.
“It was good riding behind Brad Ray with consistent lap times in the mid-to-low 1m27s,” Talbot said. “Riding with them helped me improve. Later, my teammate Max Cook passed me, and I tried to keep up, but they had a little more pace than I did. Two top-six finishes in today’s races were the best I could do.”
Fan Take: Talbot’s rebound at Donington showcases the resilience and determination that keep racing exciting for fans. His ability to bounce back after adversity adds to the sport’s drama and highlights promising talent worth watching in future BSB rounds.
